Metal Gear Solid Delta release date

The Metal Gear Solid Delta release date is Thursday, August 28, 2025, and is available on PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

The Metal Gear Solid Delta release date has already been surrounded by drama, with an incorrect release window and the release date being leaked prematurely. In 2024, the game was included in a PlayStation blog post highlighting releases that year. However, it turned out a 20th anniversary release date was not to be.

Metal Gear Solid Delta follows 2024's Silent Hill 2 Remake as Konami seemingly aims to revive some of its most-loved series. There is also speculation that a new Metal Gear Solid collection could come to PC, bringing MGS4 to the platform for the very first time.

Metal Gear Solid Delta Fox Hunt

During Konami's Press Start event on June 12, Yu Sahara, director of the new Fox Hunt mode, revealed that Delta is launching with multiplayer. While many fans suspected this to be a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Online which originally released with MGS 3: Subsistence, Fox Hunt appears to be entirely different.

Fox Hunt is a stealth-focused game mode that looks similar to prop hunt, seen in popular games like Call of Duty and Roblox. In the gameplay, we see a soldier moving around the battlefield, with their outfit dynamically adjusting to their surroundings. A similar system to this was used in MGS 4 with Snake's OctoCamo suit, though the mechanic in Delta appears to be much more advanced, adding objects like leaves and rocks to the player's outfit as they move through different environments.

The decision to move away from Metal Gear Online's action-heavy gameplay was due to the changing landscape of the multiplayer game space. "It took a lot of careful consideration to think about what a new online mode should look like," said Sahara. "Based on the iconic stealth and survival elements of the Metal Gear series, we're taking camouflage and hide-and-go-seek to the next level. We challenged ourselves to make something unique that is more than just a shoot out."

It's unclear whether Fox Hunt will be added to the game at a later date, or if it'll arrive at launch. Sahara didn't want to disclose all of the details about the mode during the presentation, suggesting that it could still be in development.

Metal Gear Solid Delta minigame

While the action game is largely identical across all platforms, the Xbox versions feature an altered version of the Snake vs. Monkey minigame. The titular monkey, or monkeys in this case, are from Sony's Ape Escape series; due to potential copyright issues, they've been removed from the Xbox versions. In their place, the monkeys have been swapped out for Bomberman, one of Konami's long-running IPs.

This minigame has caused issues in the past due to the Ape Escape tie-in, causing Konami to remove it entirely from past re-releases, including both the HD Edition and Snake Eater 3D.

Metal Gear Solid Delta trailers

The trailer at the top of the page was first shared on the PlayStation 5 console store on February 6 alongside the listed release date, as seen in the image above. This was before a release date had been officially confirmed, seemingly shared in error, and was swiftly removed.

There's always been a heavy emphasis on animal imagery in the Metal Gear series, and this trailer mirrors that as the camera gradually follows wildlife through the food chain. The path ends with a close-up of Naked Snake - top of the food chain - as the James Bond-esque 'Snake Eater' from the original MGS 3 plays over the top.

The Tokyo Game Show trailer, aired in September 2024, gives a greater look at the game itself. If you're new to the series, you're introduced to the most important of the cast, including Colonel Volgin, Revolver Ocelot, and Naked Snake himself. Meanwhile, returning fans are reminded of the plot, as Snake is sent on a mission to retrieve Dr. Sokolov and the super weapon he was forced to build. Classic Metal Gear.

While we wait for the MGS Delta release date, you might want to try some of the other best old games that you can still run on your PC.
